There are many myths about the driving test. Examiners can only pass a certain percentage, examiner was in a bad mood, there was a lorry in my way, a dog ran out, it was raining etc. The list goes on.
In reality it only boils down to the way you drive. If you have been taught well and apply everything that you have been taught, plus any creative driving that might occur on your test, then ther is no reason why you would not pass.
A learner drivers perception on the test can be a lot different from the driving examiners. A good driving instructor will show you how to look at the way you drive from a safety aspect and consequently the examiners aspect.
Best tip of the day: Drive for yourself the way you have been taught and never drive to please the examiner. When you are waiting to go onto a roundabout, think for yourself and not what you think is expected of you. It’s impossible whilst dealing with a busy roundabout to think for two people, you and your examiner.
Perfect driving is not expected on the test, but the ability to ‘fix it’ is a great asset.
The national driving test pass rate is 43%. To raise this to a better standard we need to have learner drivers who are better drivers, not more lenient examiners. Continue reading
